PSHE Curriculum

Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education is an important and necessary part of all our children’s education.

We created our ‘Keeping Ourselves Safe’ curriculum to equip our children with a sound understanding of risk and with the knowledge and skills necessary to make safe and informed decisions.

This curriculum was created with the views, experience and knowledge of many groups of school life:  parents, staff, children and governors.

The main topics in the curriculum were chosen to reflect the needs of our children.

  • Physical Health and Wellbeing

  • Keeping Safe and Managing Risk

  • Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing

  • Sex and Relationship Education

  • Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Education

  • Keeping Safe and Managing Risk

  • Financial Capability and Economic Wellbeing

  • Identity, Society and Equality

Our ‘Keeping Ourselves Safe Curriculum’ is taught as an individual subject: it is also taught and embedded within other subjects: Science, Design and Technology and P.E.  Assemblies and other curriculum enrichment opportunities support this.

Sex and Relationship Education

Relationship education (SRE) is an important part of PSHE education: it allows our children to understand and know what constitutes a healthy relationship (real life and online).

Additional content has been added.  This decision was made following consultation with our parents.  Along with staff, our parents carefully considered what our children need to know and understand and at what age.  Their knowledge, understanding and experiences of their own children helped to decide.
